partners & stakeholders

The Cooks River Sustainability Initiative is an initiative of the Cooks River Foreshore Working Group. The project partners for the Initiative are Ashfield, Bankstown City, City of Canterbury, City of Sydney, Hurstville City, Marrickville, Rockdale City and Strathfield Councils. These Councils have committed to the goals of the Initiative and have been involved in the Initiative’s development since its inception.  Monash University is also a project partner and will fulfill a research and evaluation role with the appointment of a Doctorate student for 3 years.

The various roles of stakeholders in the project are as follows:

  • Participating in and promoting community meetings;
  • Sharing local knowledge and expertise;
  • Participating in subcatchment forums and regional governance working groups;
  • Facilitating youth involvement;
  • Participating in local and regional visioning and planning activities;
  • Assisting with implementation and maintenance of on-ground works and actions;
  • Promoting the project and its outcomes;
  • Providing professional advice, expertise, qualitative and quantitative information, land access and potentially future funding.

The key stakeholders for this project are those people / agencies / organisations who make decisions that affect the catchment on a day to day basis such as residents, businesses, churches and schools. Their participation is completely voluntary. They will have the opportunity to be involved in the planning and implementation of the Subcatchment Strategies for their sub-catchment.

The stakeholder groups who will be involved in the project, and those intended to be engaged as the project progresses include:

  • The residents, businesses and industries from the Cooks River Initiative subcatchments;
  • Botany Bay Coastal Catchments Initiative;
  • Cooks River Valley Association;
  • Industry Associations;
  • Some Mainstreet Committees;
  • NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change, including NPWS
  • RailCorp;
  • Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority;
  • Sydney Water Corporation;
  • Wolli Creek Preservation Society;
  • Other – Consultants and/or subcontractors as required.
